My child isn't keeping up with the class in reading. What now?

First you find out where they are — not by what you notice, but by what gets measured. Then you work on whatever is weak. Then you measure again.

A phase or a delay?

How do I know it is a real delay and not just a phase?

There is a measure for that: reading age. It is the age the child’s reading corresponds to, compared with the one expected for the age they are. The assessment measures pre-reading skills, reading skills and that age — at three moments across the year.

Does it work?

Does this actually help, or is it one more app?

Two studies are published on this site, with a control group and two assessment moments: one in pre-school and one in year 1. The charts, the minimum critical values and what could not be measured are all there.

What they do

What will my child actually be doing?

Playing. Six short games, each working one skill: fishing for the fish whose names start with the same sound, finding the odd one out, making bingo with written words. To them it is a game; every answer feeds the report.

My part in it

Do I need to understand reading science to help?

No. The report says what is weak and what the next activity is. Choosing what comes next is the methodology’s job, not yours.
