Methodology
Assess, intervene, (re)assess.
The Leiamos Methodology emphasizes early promotion of success in learning to read through cycles of assessment-intervention-(re)assessment that build skills consistently.
Intervention cycle
Three phases, one continuous journey.
- 01
Assessment
Pre-reading skills, reading skills, and reading age. Detailed reports and personalized plans.
- 02
Intervention
Activities proposed based on the assessment, with a described procedure and supporting materials.
- 03
Reassessment
Measuring the reading level reached and deciding whether to continue the intervention.
The path
From hearing sounds to reading to learn.
Skills are not trained in any order. Each stage rests on the one before, and that sequence is what the methodology follows.
- 1Pre-reading skills
Phonological awareness
- Supra-phonemic units (syllable, rhyme)
- Phoneme unit
- 2Reading skills
Alphabetic principle
- Letter-sound relationships
- Phonemic awareness
- 3Reading skills
Decoding
- Alphabetic
- Orthographic
- Reading fluency and comprehension
What it rests on
Two convictions, one practice.
Scientific basis
Recent research shows that persistent difficulties in learning to read and write affect children's motivation, performance, and self-esteem. Early intervention is consistently recommended by the scientific literature.
Early intervention
The Leiamos Methodology identifies at-risk children based on strong predictors (phonemic awareness and letter-sound knowledge), focusing on the skills most closely correlated with success in learning to read.
