This problem, which often begins in the first years of school, conditions the child&#8217;s entire educational path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The challenge of reading in the early years<\/strong><br>National studies indicate significant rates of school failure, with a direct impact on the subjects of Portuguese and mathematics. Even more worrying is the link between initial difficulties in reading and the spread of problems to other areas of knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many children, especially those with less family support or from diverse linguistic backgrounds, reading becomes a barrier &#8211; not only to knowledge, but also to self-esteem, motivation and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>An inequality that repeats itself<\/strong><br>Even when there are overall improvements in the system, there is still a fringe of students who don&#8217;t keep up.
